Lerato has extensive experience in management of businesses which he has acquired during his employment in chemical and mining industries. Some of his previous positions held in these industries include General Manager of Technical and Sustainability, Head of SHERQ, National SHERQ Manager, Operations Manager and Production Supervisor.

He has more than 21 years working experience in the industry with more than 10 years in management of SHERQ where he was responsible for the strategic management of Protea Chemicals SHERQ department including Quality Control and Laboratories.

Amongst many of his successes and just to mention a few, implementation of Integrated Management Systems ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001, Chemicals Allied Industries (CAIA) Responsible Care ® including Process Safety, SQAS, DTI Non Proliferation Industry Compliance Program (IPC).

He is very passionate about ensuring the wellbeing of employees at the workplace which speaks of business sustainability and caring for employees. This is evident by one of his proud achievements where under his leadership Protea Chemicals managed to reduce a recordable injury rate from 2.8 to the 0.3 by implementing risk based SHERQ and behaviour based programs relevant to the business context.

His versatile experience includes serving as a Director of a non-trading employee empowerment company namely Sakhile 1 which owned 10% of Omnia holding at peak value of more than a billion Rand since 2015.

As a Director of Sakhile 1, he worked with Omnia executive management and serving under the Chairman of Omnia Group, while gaining valuable board and business experience that is underpinned by Kings’ cooperate governance principles.
